I wanted to quickly let you know our plan for maintaining both the Community Edition of InfiniDB as well as our Enterprise Edition. Our current intentions are the following:
-
The InfiniDB Community Edition (free and open source) will be the first to receive bug fixes and maintenance releases. We make the commitment to issue an updated maintenance version once per calendar month. These updates will be thoroughly tested by our own internal QA department to ensure they are ready for public consumption.
- The monthly Community updates apply only to the most current FINAL version of InfiniDB. Older versions of InfiniDB Community Edition will remain available but will be patched on a as-needed basis.
- For InfiniDB Enterprise, we will issue quarterly maintenance updates that contain rolled up patches from the previously released Community Edition bug fixes. For any Enterprise customer needing a particular crucial fix, we will supply them with a hot fix build containing that fix.
- Any major security issue will be immediately fixed and made available in both our Community and Enterprise Editions
- We aim to have major new releases of InfiniDB every 12-18 months, but will likely have more frequent releases in 2010 (2 more are scheduled).
What do you think? If you think we’ve missed something or have a recommendation on how to do things better, we’re all ears, so let us know!
