I’m very pleased to announce that the FINAL 1.0 version of the InfiniDB Community Edition database is now available for use. I’d like to thank all of you who helped get us through the alpha, beta, and RC cycles to the 1.0 release of InfiniDB.
You can now download the 1.0 InfiniDB Community Edition binaries and source code and start creating fast running data warehouses, marts, or any other read-intensive application that InfiniDB is suited for. All of our documentation is available for free and our forums remain in place (free of charge, of course) to help you with any questions you may have. If you’re new to InfiniDB, make sure you read through our getting started page. And also check out our FAQ page, which has lots of tips and help on how to use InfiniDB, including when you don’t want to use us for your apps.
Overall, I think you’ll be pleased with what you find in InfiniDB Community Edition. It’s about as far away from crippleware as you’ll find, and the recent benchmarks of our open source database soundly beating one of the top leading row-based RDBMS’s spells this out. So do Percona’s tests of InfiniDB and other comparable open source databases. Be sure to check out the full feature set of InfiniDB so you know exactly how much is really there. Again, I think you’ll be very happy with all it delivers.
For those of you interested, you can also check out the Enterprise Edition of InfiniDB on the new Calpont web site. InfiniDB Enterprise has a few more features than Community, such as MPP support, global management, monitoring, and notification functionality, and production support.
Lastly, I want to congratulate the Engineering, Software Architecture, and QA teams at Calpont for simply outstanding work. They hit all their target dates without fail, and did so in a great fashion. It is a pleasure to work with such a polished and professional technical staff that gets the job done with absolutely no drama whatsoever. And as you can see in the above picture, there aren’t many of them! That makes their accomplishments even more amazing considering the complexity of InfiniDB and all that it does. Plus, they’re some pretty great folks to hang out with as one of our users, Shelby Ramsey (CTO of SIP Interchange), notes in an email he sent out recently:
"InfiniDB kicks some ass and these guys at Calpont are dudes you'd like to have a beer with."
